| No Day Without a Line: The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers 1880-1999 | 31 August - 31 October |
|
The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers was founded in 1880 in protest against the refusal of the Royal Academy to take printmaking seriously as an art form. Ever since, its members have played a major role in printmaking in Britain and the Academy has since elected numerous artist-printmakers to its ranks. Its Diploma collection consisting of a print presented by every member on election, is on long loan to the Ashmolean. This exhibition is the culmination of nine years work in sorting and cataloguing the collection and provides a panoramic view of 120 years of printmaking in Britain. |
