Gallery Closures
We are now open six days a week (excluding Monday) from 10:00am – 6:00pm.
The installation of labels, objects and lighting in a selection of galleries are in the final stages of completion.
Early Museum Closure
Due to civil ceremonies taking place inside the Museum, the Ashmolean will close at 5 pm on the following dates:
- Saturday 20 February 2010
- Saturday 13 March 2010
- Saturday 20 March 2010
Gallery completely closed for installation:
- Chinese Paintings (Gallery 11)
The following galleries will remain open to the public while installation is being completed:
- European Prehistory (Gallery 17)
- Aegean World (Gallery 20)
- Ancient Near East (Gallery 19)
Please accept our apologies for any short term temporary gallery closures which may be occurring.
Opening in April 2010: Arts of the 18th century (Gallery 52)
A wide-ranging new gallery for the Ashmolean, this will be devoted to European paintings, sculpture, miniatures, ceramics and silver from about 1700-1800. Amongst the works of art on display will be Tiepolo's Woman with a Macaw and the terracotta portrait bust of the six-year-old Edward Salter by Michael Rysbrack.
The Cast Gallery will open in time for Christmas 2010.
